Following reports that around 40–50 villagers of Bukpi village in Thanlon Sub-Division, Churachandpur district, were suffering from ailments including fever, headache, cold and general weakness, Chief Medical Officer Henkhoneng Mate sent a medical team to assess the situation on Wednesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Bukpi Village Authority had sent a letter to the Chief Medical Officer, drawing attention to what it described as a serious health concern in the village. The authority stated that around 40–50 villagers had been suffering from fever, headache, cold and general sickness for the past week.

The village authority requested the CMO’s office to send a medical team to Bukpi at the earliest to examine the affected persons, provide necessary medicines and treatment, and assess the situation to determine the possible cause of the illness.

On Wednesday, the CMO’s office sent a medical team to the village to assess the situation.

Speaking to the media about the development, Chief Medical Officer Henkhoneng Mate said, “We received a letter from the Bukpi Village Authority informing us about an outbreak of disease, in which approximately 40–50 people have been suffering from cold, cough, diarrhoea, etc., for the past one week.”

The CMO said a medical team from Thanlon Primary Health Centre, the nearest health centre to Bukpi village, had been sent to conduct an immediate assessment of the affected persons, prepare a list of all suspected cases, and identify the possible causes and sources of the illness. The team will also provide necessary treatment and, if possible, supervise appropriate preventive and control measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
