Chepu Yaolen Village Comes Under Fresh Attack, Kuki CSOs Seek Immediate Security Action

Kuki CSOs alleges indiscriminate firing from New Heaven, raises concerns over police complicity, and demands Assam Rifles deployment in vulnerable areas

Following the failed attempt to infiltrate and assault Chepu Yaolen village through its forest and agricultural zones via the Ringui-Tongou-Sirarikhong corridor on April 28, the aggressors have reportedly escalated their offensive by directly targeting the residential areas from New Heaven on Saturday.

The Working Committee Kuki CSOs Ukhrul issued a release on Saturday stating that indiscriminate firing was unleashed upon Chepu Yaolen—a Kuki village—from Tangkhul-dominated New Heaven along NH-202 at approximately 12:30 PM on Saturday.

The committee stated that such a reckless and calculated act has instilled widespread panic and poses a grave and imminent danger to the lives of innocent villagers, particularly women and children.

The committee raised serious and credible concerns regarding the complicity of personnel from Litan Police Station, alleging that the attackers were aided with weapons and ammunition, with photographic evidence reportedly capturing the presence of police personnel at New Heaven prior to the commencement of the assault.

Claiming that such developments raise disturbing questions of collusion, dereliction of duty, and institutional bias, the committee added that repeated warnings about Chepu Yaolen's vulnerability were ignored, reflecting systemic neglect and failure to provide essential security.

The release further stated that damage to the motorable road near the suspension bridge by TM Kasom villagers has effectively isolated Chepu Yaolen during a time of acute distress.

The committee demanded the immediate removal of Tangkhul personnel from Litan Police Station and the urgent deployment of at least one company of Assam Rifles to secure Chepu Yaolen and adjoining vulnerable habitations.

The continued inertia in the face of such brazen aggression is indefensible.

“If the government is either incapable or unwilling to discharge its fundamental obligation of safeguarding the lives and security of its citizens, it must come clean and declare so without equivocation,” the committee added.
