
The Agartala–Khongsang Express, popularly known as the Jan Shatabdi Express, resumed operations on a trial basis on Friday, marking the restoration of passenger train services between Agartala and Khongsang Railway Station in Noney district, Manipur, after a gap of three years.
At around 12:30 pm, the train arrived at Jiribam from Agartala before continuing its journey to Khongsang in Noney district. Carrying 15 passengers without ticketing, the train reached Khongsang Railway Station in Noney district at around 3:20 pm on Friday.
The train service had been suspended since June 4, 2023, following an order issued by the Senior Divisional Security Commissioner of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Lumding, in view of the prevailing security situation in the state.
The train departed Khongsang Railway Station at around 3:55 pm with approximately 60 passengers without ticketing.
The Agartala–Khongsang Jan Shatabdi Expressservice was inaugurated on March 14, 2022.
The express train is expected to operate once a week, every Friday, on the Agartala–Khongsang–Agartala route during the trial period.
