The Indian National Congress MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and AICC In-charge of Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, visited Churachandpur at 11:00 a.m. by helicopter and interacted with the Churachandpur District Congress Committee leaders at the residence of T. Manga Vaiphei, Red Cross Road.
The programme was attended by leaders of the District Congress Committee, Block Congress leaders, Mahila Congress, and Youth Congress leaders.
He was accompanied by Wahidur Rehman, General Secretary (Organisation), MPCC; Sakir Ahmad, OBC Chairman; Raikhan, party leader from Ukhrul; Mudasir, party leader; and Muidou Makunga, another Congress leader from Tengnoupal.
During the party meeting, the MP informed about the party’s plan to undertake a series of Congress-led nationwide agitations protesting the replacement of MGNREGS with the Vikshit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB G-RAM-G) Act, 2025, and further stressed the need to work in tandem with party leaders and people at the grassroots level.

Later, he visited the Youth Hostel Relief Centre and oversaw the conditions of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) sheltered there.
Speaking about his overall impression of the conditions of the IDPs, he said it was very sad and that they were living like cattle.
He said that 7–8 families were made to live in a single room, bathroom facilities were not available, food used to be provided but was no longer available, children were supposed to attend schools but facilities were not available now, and termed it as a very poor condition of life.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised that by December 2025, the displaced people would return to their homes in multiple phases, but out of 60,000, only a few thousand had been able to go back.
Blaming the government, he said that even after having a majority of 55, they could not form the government and had to resort to President’s Rule.

He further said that the people of Manipur are proud people and cannot accept diktats from Delhi to control their lives. He termed the situation as very sad and said the government has to take care of this.
“We demand fresh elections. Elections have to be held and the Assembly has to be dissolved. Only then can a democratic government be formed and the issues be resolved,” he said.
He informed that he would talk to Kharge ji and Rahul Gandhi, stating that the problem was not getting any solution. He added that Ajay Bhalla had said the problems would be solved by December 2025, but instead, the situation was getting worse.
He also spoke about the adverse effects of changing the name of MGNREGS.
