Kangpokpi Police Leads Gandhi Jayanti Cleanliness Drive; Reaffirms Commitment to Public Hygiene and Civic Duty

Marking the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, observed nationwide as National Cleanliness Day, the Kangpokpi Police today set an inspiring example of civic responsibility by conducting a mass cleanliness drive at the heart of the town.

The initiative, spearheaded by Officer-in-Charge Inspector H. Kipgen, saw the active participation of officers and men of the Kangpokpi Police Station. The drive commenced early in the morning at 7:00 am and continued till 8:30 am, covering the stretch from the Police Station premises up to the busy I.T. Road Bazar Junction area, one of the town’s most frequented public zones.

With brooms, and waste bags in hand, the personnel carried out the sweeping, collection, and disposal of garbage, plastics, and other unattended waste materials along the roadside and market vicinity. The cleanliness campaign not only removed heaps of litter but also restored orderliness to public spaces, resonating with Gandhiji’s timeless message of hygiene, discipline, and community service.

The Kangpokpi Police underlined the importance of observing Gandhi Jayanti not just as a day of remembrance but as an opportunity to practically uphold the Father of the Nation’s ideals. “Cleanliness is not only about the environment we live in, but it also reflects our sense of discipline, responsibility, and respect for our society.

As police personnel, we are custodians of law and order, but we also share the duty to maintain a clean and healthy town for all,” a police officer said.

Residents and shopkeepers at I.T. Road Bazar appreciated the initiative, noting that such drives reinforce public awareness about the collective responsibility of keeping Kangpokpi clean. Several locals voluntarily joined the police team during the drive, adding to the spirit of cooperation and unity.

The Kangpokpi Police have often taken proactive roles in community-related activities beyond their regular policing duties. Today’s cleanliness drive further demonstrates their commitment to blending public service with public responsibility, especially on a day deeply tied to Gandhi’s vision of a clean and self-reliant India.

The drive concluded with a renewed pledge by the participating officers to continue such initiatives in the future, not just symbolically on Gandhi Jayanti, but as part of sustained efforts towards making Kangpokpi a cleaner, greener, and healthier town.
