In a resolute move to raise awareness and strengthen the fight against cancer, the District NCD (Non-Communicable Diseases) Cell of Kangpokpi District Hospital observed World Cancer Day 2025 at the Conference Hall of the hospital today under the global theme, “United by Unique.”

The observance saw the participation of health officials, medical staff, community leaders, and concerned citizens, all united in their commitment to combat one of the leading causes of death worldwide. The event was organized under the aegis of the National Health Mission (NHM) and aimed to reinforce the importance of early detection, prevention, and equitable access to treatment.

The powerful theme "United by Unique" emphasized the strength found in diversity, highlighting how individuals from all walks of life—regardless of background—can come together to support those affected by cancer and work toward a future free of the disease.

A symbolic ribbon wrapped around the globe, accompanied by red boxing gloves, featured prominently on the event banner—underscoring the fight against cancer as a united global struggle requiring both compassion and resilience.

Health experts at the event urged the public to adopt healthier lifestyles, undergo regular screenings, and support cancer patients with dignity and empathy. The program also focused on the need for continuous education and collaborative efforts between healthcare providers and communities to reduce the cancer burden in the region.

The event began at 12:30 p.m. and was moderated by Mr. L. Holminlun Khongsai, District NCD Epidemiologist. A significant turnout of healthcare professionals, administrators, and community representatives marked the solemn observance.

Dr. Paokai Kipgen, Chief Medical Officer and District Malaria Officer, Kangpokpi, graced the event as the Chief Guest and delivered a keynote speech urging the community to focus on early detection, regular screening, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent cancer. He reiterated the importance of bridging the gap in access to care across rural and urban regions.

The Guest of Honour, Dr. Nengpilhing Misao, Medical Superintendent in-charge of DH Kangpokpi, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the critical role healthcare institutions play in spreading awareness and improving outcomes through preventive programs.

A special session was delivered by Dr. Hassan Unais TP, Paediatrician from RIMS, Imphal, who served as the Resource Person. He shared valuable insights on pediatric oncology and the emerging challenges in cancer prevention among younger populations.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Thangminlun Singson, District Nodal Officer (NCD), Kangpokpi, acknowledging the presence and contribution of all stakeholders who have been instrumental in driving forward the mission of cancer prevention and control in the district.

The program concluded with light refreshments and a renewed call for collective efforts in the ongoing battle against cancer. The observance reinforced that every effort, however unique or small, matters in creating a cancer-free tomorrow.

This year’s observance served as a poignant reminder that every action, no matter how small, contributes to a greater movement toward a cancer-free world.
