Thahpi Haokip, a commander of the Kuki National Army (KNA), also known as Thenkhothang or Thahpi, and his two colleagues were ambushed and shot dead by cadres of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred at Mongjang village in Churachandpur district. During the firing, a woman—believed to be from a nearby area—was also shot dead.

Disturbing videos circulating on social media show three men inside a car and the body of a woman lying on the road.

Following the incident, the UKNA issued a press release claiming responsibility for the attack.

The release stated that Thahpi and his friends were "punished" by the UKNA. It also alleged that Thahpi had previously killed UKNA PRO Satkhohao, another youth named Tamin Hunter, and approximately 30 others.
