
The Manipur Cabinet has approved a one-time special humanitarian assistance of ₹10 lakh each to the next of kin of 49 persons reported missing in connection with the violence since May 3, 2023 in Manipur.
BJP MLA and Manipur Government Spokesperson Thokchom Radheshyam announced the same on Thursday during a press conference held at the New Secretariat, Mantripukhri following a Cabinet meeting earlier.
The spokesperson said the decision was taken considering the hardships faced by the families of those who remain untraced despite sustained search efforts.
Informing that the total expenditure of ₹4.90 crore for the assistance would be borne by the State Government, Radheshyam also announced that the Cabinet had approved enhancement of ex-gratia for Army and CAPF personnel killed or injured while operating in Manipur.
Radheshyam said, “Under the revised rates, ₹10 lakh will be paid in case of death, ₹2 lakh for permanent disability, ₹1 lakh for grievous injury and ₹20,000 for simple injury”.
He also informed that the cabinet approved the constitution of the Fifth Manipur State Finance Commission for the period 2026-27 to 2030-31. Announcing the enhancement of pension for retired journalist under Manipur Working Journalists’ Pension Rules 1998, Radheshyam said the monthly pension will increase from ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 and family pension for families of deceased journalists from ₹5,000 to ₹7,000.
