Sadar Hills Congress Slams BJP Government Over Bomb Attack on Congress Leader, Questions CM’s ‘Sudden’ Leimakhong Visit

The Sadar Hills District Congress Committee (SH-DCC) has launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Manipur government over the alleged bomb attack on Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and former Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president K Meghachandra Singh, terming the incident an assault not only on an individual but on the democratic and constitutional values of the state.

The SH-DCC condemned the alleged bomb attack on Meghachandra at around 8.30 pm on Thursday and demanded immediate and stringent action against those responsible.

The district Congress body said the attack had assumed grave significance at a time when five Congress MLAs, including the CLP leader, were making efforts both inside and outside the Assembly to raise issues concerning the common people and work towards restoring peace and harmony in Manipur.

“Democracy cannot function under fear and intimidation,” the SH-DCC said, accusing the BJP-led government of “complete failure” to maintain law and order and protect citizens and political leaders.

It demanded that the government act immediately against the perpetrators and ensure that such incidents were not repeated.

The Congress body also turned its guns on Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen over their proposed visit to the Leimakhong area, questioning the timing of the move.

The SH-DCC alleged that despite the people of the area enduring “the worst difficulties and hardships”, neither the Chief Minister nor the concerned MLA had been visible among them when they were in desperate need of support, assistance and leadership.

“Where were the CM and the local MLA when the people were in dire need of someone to rescue them from their critical situation?” the party asked.

The Congress committee further questioned why the Chief Minister and local MLA were showing renewed interest in visiting the area only after the situation was gradually returning to normalcy through the efforts of local leaders and residents.

It went a step further, asking whether the proposed visit was aimed at “scoring a political point” rather than being driven by genuine concern for the people, particularly with the state approaching the 13th Manipur Assembly election in 2027.

The SH-DCC said it would not allow anyone to “manipulate the pains and sufferings” of ordinary people for political gains and pledged to continue raising public grievances irrespective of caste, creed or region.

It also vowed to defend the fundamental and constitutional rights of citizens and warned against any attempt to intimidate or deceive the public at the expense of their suffering.

“Condemn Violence, Demand Accountability, and Defend Democracy,” the statement said.
