Churachandpur Police Recover 111 Lost, Stolen Mobile Phones This Year

The Churachandpur District Police and Cyber Cell have recovered 111 lost or stolen mobile phones and handed them over to their rightful owners this year.

An interaction programme was organised by the District Police and Cyber Cell with citizens whose lost or stolen mobile phones had been recovered. The programme was led by Lawrence K. Munluo, Additional SP (LO) and Nodal Officer, Cyber Cell, Churachandpur, along with SI Pumkhansiam Vualnam, In-charge, Cyber Cell, Churachandpur.

During the interaction, Munluo thanked the citizens for placing their trust in the District Police and Cyber Cell by reporting their lost or stolen mobile phones. He said the district police remained committed to assisting citizens in every possible way, while acknowledging that some cases could take time or might not always result in recovery.

The Nodal Officer urged the public to maintain a record of their mobile phone's International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number, stating that it is crucial for tracing and recovering lost devices and that a phone number alone is not sufficient.

He also cautioned people against purchasing second-hand mobile phones without verifying their origin, as they could unknowingly purchase stolen devices, potentially resulting in legal complications and financial losses.

The public was further advised to immediately report lost or stolen phones to the nearest police station and subsequently inform the Cyber Cell, as early reporting increases the chances of recovery.

The Cyber Cell also cautioned citizens to remain vigilant against emerging cyber frauds and scams. People were advised to exercise extra caution in public places, including hospitals and hotels, and avoid leaving their mobile phones unattended.

The Churachandpur District Police said the Cyber Cell has been making sustained efforts to recover lost and stolen mobile phones alongside its other duties. So far this year, a total of 111 devices have been recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
