Taphou Kuki Village Reports Attack by Armed Men; Village Authority Condemns House Burning

Taphou Kuki Village has reportedly come under attack by heavily armed Nagas, with the village authority alleging that the attackers were armed with sophisticated weapons.

A video purportedly recorded by individuals at Senapati and widely circulated on social media captures voices allegedly guiding the attackers about the location of Kuki civilians. In the video, a voice is heard saying, “It’s in the blue house,” apparently referring to a house with a blue-coloured roof.

The continued attacks have taken place despite the presence of security forces and the villagers expressed concern over what they described as the alleged complicity and bias of the state authorities.

Meanwhile, the Taphou Kuki Village Authority strongly condemned the alleged burning and destruction of a residential house belonging to a villager, describing the act as “deplorable, inhuman and unacceptable.”

The authority said the destruction of homes causes not only loss of property and livelihood but also fear, insecurity and emotional distress among affected families. It stressed that homes represent safety, dignity, memories and years of hard work.

The Village Authority appealed to all individuals and groups to refrain from violence, arson and destruction of property, and urged that grievances be addressed through peaceful dialogue and lawful means.

It also called upon the District Administration, police and other competent authorities to immediately investigate the incident, identify those responsible and take appropriate legal action, while prioritising the safety and security of civilians and their properties.

The Village Authority further issued a 24-hour deadline for those allegedly involved in the burning of the house to claim responsibility and resolve the matter according to Kuki customary law. It warned that failure to do so could lead to an “untoward incident,” while stating that the Village Authority would not be held responsible.

The authority appealed to all communities to maintain peace, exercise restraint and work towards restoring trust, security and peaceful coexistence.
