CJP Protest Reaches Northeast; Demonstrations Held in Shillong, Guwahati, and Dimapur

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest campaign, along with demonstrations expressing solidarity with activist Sonam Wangchuk, spread to the Northeast on Monday, with rallies held in Shillong, Guwahati, and Dimapur.

The protests come amid ongoing demonstrations in New Delhi, where thousands of people have been gathering at Jantar Mantar for several days, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged mismanagement of competitive examinations. Protesters in the national capital also faced police action during their planned march to Parliament.

In Shillong, students and parents assembled at Don Bosco Square, voicing support for the ongoing protests in Delhi and the movement associated with Sonam Wangchuk. Participants expressed concern over examination paper leaks, transparency in the education system, and the need for accountability.

Protesters carried placards with messages such as "Books not barriers, learning not politics," "We demand accountability, transparency, reform,"and "Children and youths are people too, not statistics,"highlighting their demand for education reforms.

In Dimapur, Nagaland, hundreds of people gathered at Super Market to express support for the CJP-led campaign and its demands.

Meanwhile, in Guwahati, supporters assembled at four different locations across the city to back Sonam Wangchuk and call for reforms in the education system. According to The Assam Tribune, the demonstrations were held peacefully with participants raising slogans in support of greater transparency and accountability in competitive examinations.

The protests in Assam come days after two artists were reportedly detained for painting a mural in support of Sonam Wangchuk.

The detention followed the appearance of a mural on a flyover pillar bearing the message "Save Sonam Wangchuk," which was reportedly painted by students of the Government College of Art & Craft.

With demonstrations now extending to the Northeast, the campaign has gained support beyond the national capital, reflecting growing public concern over education-related issues and broader calls for institutional reforms.
