Security forces detained three individuals during an intelligence based operation on Tuesday in the areas of TM Kasom, Litan and Sikibung.
As per the police, the operation was launched to arrest the perpetrators of the ambush on security forces in Ukhrul district on July 6. As per sources, four individuals from Sharkaphung village Kamjong district who were detained by the central forces have been brought to Porompat Police Station in Imphal
Meanwhile the Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) demands the immediate and unconditional release of four residents from Sharkaphung (Sikibung) village, Kamjong district while warning of civil unrest against the state government if the four individuals are not release within 24 hours.
The committee stated that it takes serious exception of the combing operation conducted by the combined team of Police, Assam Rifles, Punjab Regiment, Madras Regiment and Bihar Regiment in certain Tangkhul Naga villages namely TM Kasom, Sharkaphung and Lungphu, and resorting to rampant arrest of four (4) innocent villagers on the July 14
The committee stated that the four innocent civilians of Sharkaphung (Sikibung) village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Kamjong District, have been identified as (1) Mr. Wungphayo Kasar (24) s/o Yurthan Kasar, (2) Mr. A.S. Ninglum (29) s/o AS Hopeson, (3) Mr. Yaoreingam Lungleng (24) s/o Makanmi Lungleng, and (4) Mr. Vareiyo Lungleng (56) s/o Tuifa Lungleng.
The committee claimed that the villagers were whisked away between 8-9 in the morning by the security forces and their whereabouts are still unknown till the release of this official communiqué.
TNL stated that TM Kasom and Sharkaphung, has been under an aggressive attack from the Kuki militants under SoO pact and Kuki narco-terrorist groups since the outbreak of violent conflict in Ukhrul District on the 7th of February 2026. Whereas, the Kuki villages the epicentres of triggering violence in Ukhrul and Kamjong, has remained untouched by the security forces till date.
The Working Committee of TNL warns that the excesses committed by the security forces could unfold serious ramifications and further worsen the situation beyond control.
