The Joint Council Meeting of Kuki Inpi Manipur and Civil Society Organisations, Kangpokpi, has unanimously resolved to extend the ongoing total shutdown imposed across all Kuki-Zo inhabited areas with effect from 12:00 midnight on May 25.
In a statement issued on Monday, KIM stated that the meeting unanimously resolved that the total shutdown shall continue and shall only be lifted when the perpetrators involved in the barbaric murder of the three Kuki-Zo church leaders are thoroughly investigated, identified, and brought to justice, and when all Kuki-Zo individuals under illegal detention are safely, immediately, and unconditionally released.
KIM stated that the decision has been necessitated by the continued silence, indifference, and inaction of the Government even after twelve consecutive days of sustained public shutdowns, democratic protests, and earnest appeals for justice by the Kuki-Zo people following the brutal and heinous murder of three Kuki-Zo church leaders and the continued illegal detention of innocent Kuki-Zo individuals allegedly held hostage by Naga Civil Society Organisations led by the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA).
The Kuki apex body stated that the Government's continued failure to respond meaningfully to the legitimate concerns and appeals of the people is a serious affront to the collective pain, suffering, and dignity of the people.
Therefore, the meeting further resolved that Kuki Inpi and the Kuki-Zo Civil Society Organisations shall intensify the democratic justice movement and, in consultation with the public, undertake more stringent measures should the Government continue to remain indifferent to the legitimate demands and aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people, the release stated.
However, KIM also declared that essential and emergency services, including medical emergencies, healthcare services, media, and security-related movements, shall remain exempt from the shutdown.
Kuki Inpi Manipur appealed to the public to continue extending unwavering cooperation, solidarity, and support in this collective struggle for justice, truth, peace, and the protection of human dignity.
