The Zillai General Headquarters (GHQ), the apex body of the Vaiphei Students’ Association, has strongly condemned what it described as “malicious, defamatory, and baseless allegations” circulating on social media against Lalboi Vaiphei, Chief of Leilon Vaiphei village.
In a statement issued by its Information and Publicity Department, Zillai GHQ rejected claims linking Lalboi Vaiphei to the alleged abduction incident that reportedly took place at Leilon Village on May 13, 2026.
The organization stated that Lalboi Vaiphei, a respected former Vice President of Zillai GHQ, has maintained an “unblemished and upright” public life and has long been recognized for his contributions toward educational development and community upliftment, particularly in rural areas.
Clarifying his whereabouts on the day of the incident, the student body stated that Lalboi Vaiphei was not in Manipur on May 13, having traveled outside the state earlier for medical treatment. The organization asserted with “absolute clarity and conviction” that he has no connection whatsoever with any militant outfit or unlawful activities.
“Lalboi Vaiphei is completely and unquestionably innocent,” the statement said, while condemning the allegations as fabricated propaganda aimed at tarnishing his reputation and character.
The association urged the public, media organizations, and social media users to refrain from spreading unverified information and inflammatory content that could further fuel tensions in the state.
Meanwhile, Zillai GHQ also expressed profound grief over the killing of three senior church leaders on May 13, describing the incident as “heinous and tragic.” The organization extended solidarity and condolences to the bereaved families and also conveyed sympathy to the families of hostages from both communities affected by the ongoing unrest.
Emphasizing the need for peace and reconciliation, the student body stated that meaningful dialogue remains the only path toward lasting harmony between communities in Manipur.
Founded in 1939 under the guidance of Rev. Thangkai and Rev. Lungpau, regarded as the first Christian converts in the southern part of Manipur, Zillai GHQ appealed to all communities to exercise restraint, reject violence and hatred, and work collectively for the restoration of peace in the state.
