Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has announced the extension of the ongoing 48-hour shutdown for another 48 hours, citing the Government’s continued inaction over its Charter of Demands and the failure to rescue Kuki individuals allegedly held hostage in Senapati district.

In a statement issued on Saturday, KIM said the decision was taken after “thorough deliberation” in view of the lack of any positive response from the authorities regarding the memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister of India on May 14, 2026.

The organisation stated that the extended shutdown will come into effect from midnight of May 17.

KIM expressed appreciation to its federating units, civil society organisations, and the Kuki-Zo public for their “unwavering cooperation, solidarity, and support” during the agitation. It also appealed to all federating units to continue fully endorsing and enforcing the shutdown as a collective call for the Government to address their grievances without further delay.

While medical emergencies and essential humanitarian services have been exempted from the shutdown, the public has been strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel due to the prevailing situation.

Reiterating its concern, KIM said the “continued silence and inaction” of the authorities over the issue was “deeply unfortunate and unacceptable,” and urged the Government to act with urgency before the situation worsens further.
