KSO Sadar Hills Enforces 48-Hour District-Wide Shutdown; Says Govt. Inaction On Kuki Hostages Will Amount to Constitutional Failure

Escalating pressure over the continued illegal detention of 14 Kuki civilians, the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Sadar Hills, on Friday threw its full weight behind Kuki Inpi Manipur’s shutdown call, enforcing a sweeping 48-hour total shutdown across Kangpokpi district beginning midnight of May 15.

The KSO Sadar Hills announced the closure of all schools, government offices, private institutions, businesses, and transport services throughout the district, describing the prolonged detention of Kuki civilians as a “barbaric act” and a grave assault on human dignity and the rule of law.

The student body declared that its volunteers would be deployed across Kangpokpi district to ensure what it termed “strict and peaceful enforcement” of the shutdown, while issuing an uncompromising warning that non-compliance by any public or private establishment would invite consequences.

KSO Sadar Hills made it clear that it would not be held responsible for any untoward incidents arising from defiance of the shutdown directive, signaling an intensified mass mobilisation in solidarity with Kuki Inpi Manipur’s demand for the immediate, safe, and unconditional release of all remaining hostages.

Calling the situation a test of constitutional governance, the organisation sharply criticised what it implied was governmental inaction, asserting that any further delay by the authorities and security agencies would amount to a failure of constitutional responsibility.

The development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing hostage crisis, with student leadership in Sadar Hills now formally joining the apex tribal body’s agitation, amplifying calls for urgent state intervention amid mounting public anger across Kuki-dominated areas.
