Kuki Inpi Manipur Warns of Coordinated Meitei–Tangkhul Militant Build-Up in Ukhrul district

The Kuki Inpi Manipur, the apex body pf the Kuki tribes, has raised serious concerns over what it describes as a coordinated build-up of armed groups involving Meitei and Tangkhul militant elements in parts of Ukhrul district, warning of growing risks to Kuki-Zo civilian populations.

According to a statement issued by the Kuki apex body, over 50 cadres linked to Arambai Tenggol are reportedly stationed in Sikibung and operating alongside Tangkhul militant factions. The group claims this reflects a structured and deliberate deployment with implications for law and order in the region.

The statement further alleges that multiple locations—including Sareikhong, T.M. Kasom, Leingangching, Sikibung, and Thoyee—are being used as operational bases for joint militant activities. It also points to the continued functioning of an unauthorized camp allegedly associated with NSCN, suggesting a lack of enforcement action by authorities.

In a more serious allegation, Kuki Inpi claims to have received inputs indicating that a senior police officer in Manipur may have compromised sensitive information regarding vulnerable Kuki villages. If verified, the organization says, such actions would constitute a major breach of duty and weaken the credibility of the state’s security apparatus.

The Kuki Inpi further warned that the convergence of armed elements, combined with what it perceives as insufficient containment measures, signals a deteriorating security environment in Ukhrul district.

Calling for urgent intervention, Kuki Inpi has urged the Government of India to dismantle militant camps, remove armed concentrations, and launch an independent inquiry into the alleged intelligence leak. It also called for enhanced protection measures for civilians in vulnerable areas.
