The United Kuki National Army (UKNA), a non-SoO group, has warned of action over an alleged rice scam in Churachandpur, while reiterating its commitment to protecting the buffer zone.

In a statement, the group said it had taken note of “credible reports and independent findings” pointing to large-scale discrepancies in the supply of essential food grains. According to the UKNA, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and ordinary citizens have been systematically exploited.

The group alleged that certain officials from the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAP & PD) department, along with Meitei transport contractors, were involved in the misconduct. It claimed that such actions have worsened the hardships faced by people in the region.

Condemning the alleged misuse of public resources, the UKNA called for strict accountability. It demanded a fair and transparent inquiry into the matter and urged that those found guilty be punished in accordance with the law.

The statement also directed those allegedly involved to issue an unconditional public apology to residents of Churachandpur and Pherzawl district at the earliest, warning of “strict action” if they fail to comply.

Additionally, the UKNA warned that contractors continuing such practices would face a complete ban from operating in the two districts. It also cautioned civil society organisations and community leaders against supporting or shielding those accused, stating that such actions would invite consequences.

Reaffirming its stance, the group said it remains committed to protecting the rights and welfare of the Kuki-Zo people and maintaining the buffer zone, adding that exploitation of the community would not be tolerated.
