Kuki-Zo People in Churachandpur District Hold Public Rally Against Government Attempts to Resettle Meitei Internally Displaced Persons

The protesters demanded that there should be no resettlement of IDPs until the government brings a comprehensive political solution to the demands of the Kuki-Zo people.

Kuki-Zo people under Sangaikot Sub-Division in Churachandpur district of Manipur held a public rally against the government’s attempts to resettle Meitei Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by allegedly violating the buffer zone.
The rally was organised by the Kuki Women Union, Sangaikot Area. It was also organised to express resentment over the state government’s plan to forcibly repair the bridge connecting Sugnu village and T. Lailoiphai village under Sangaikot Sub-Division.
Thousands of people in turn up for the rally which began from M. Mollim Village and concluded at T. Lailoiphai village. No untoward incidents were reported during the rally.
The protesters demanded that there should be no resettlement of IDPs until the government brings a comprehensive political solution to the demands of the Kuki-Zo people. They also demanded that no civil works or repair activities be permitted within the buffer zone.
